Theatre of the NO welcomes Humanoid Collective Orchestra on Friday, October 23 at 21:30, a new music collective founded in Athens by musician, bassist and composer Dimitris Tsekouras.

Seven musicians come together in a formation that moves freely between neo-soul, afro-beat, funk and jazz, combining powerful grooves, improvisation and cinematic atmospheres. Musical ideas serve as the starting point for a collective creative process, through which the sound continuously evolves, taking on a distinctive and multifaceted character.

Their musical references span different eras and scenes, from Funkadelic, Sun Ra Arkestra, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and Fela Kuti to Mulatu Astatke, Pharoah Sanders, Janko Nilovic, Isaac Hayes and Roy Ayers, while drawing on the contemporary sounds of Kamasi Washington, Louis Cole, Cory Henry, Khruangbin, Budos Band and Antibalas. Their creative landscape also includes important Greek acts such as Los Tre, Mob Trio, Soul Peanuts, Barakos Orchestra and Harris Lambrakis Quartet.

On stage, the result takes on an intensely dynamic and unpredictable live character. Rhythms build gradually, improvisations open up new musical paths, while powerful grooves give way to psychedelic passages and cinematic soundscapes, creating an experience that carries the audience from explosive rhythmic energy into deeper atmospheric territory.

Beyond the music itself, the collective is guided by an artistic manifesto that embraces freedom, inclusion, social justice, peace, and respect for nature and community, while taking a clear stand against exclusion, violence, racism, marginalization and war.
