Theatre of the No hosts the Manolakis Couleur Locale Trio, a group that creatively redefines the relationship between Cretan musical tradition and contemporary improvisation, on Friday, May 22 at 21:30.

Virtuoso laouto player from Crete, Giorgis Manolakis, creates a distinctive sonic landscape through his use of laouto and effects. He is joined on stage by Dimitris Klonis on drums and Dimitris Tsekouras on double bass. The trio performs original compositions by Manolakis, while drawing inspiration from elements of Cretan musical tradition. Starting from this repertoire, the three musicians shape a dynamic palette of rhythms and sound textures, moving beyond conventional boundaries.

Born in Heraklion, Crete, Manolakis grew up in a musical family and began studying music at the age of eight under the guidance of his father, Kostas Manolakis, a virtuoso of the lyra and laouto. His first major public appearance came with the group Hainides, paving the way for performances in Greece and abroad. His collaboration with Ross Daly continues to this day. In 2009, he released his first personal album, establishing himself as one of the leading creators of the contemporary Cretan music scene.
