From Tribute to Jam

Theatre of the NO welcomes Blues Cargo, one of the longest-standing and most established blues bands on the Greek music scene, for two special Blues Jam Nights dedicated to two iconic figures in the history of blues.

On Wednesday, 7 October at 8:30 PM, Blues Cargo present a special tribute to B.B. King, while on Wednesday, 21 October at 8:30 PM, they pay tribute to the legendary Albert Collins, in a night inspired by his distinctive guitar sound and unmistakable blues style.

Rooted in the authentic sound of Chicago Blues, Blues Cargo bring to Theatre of the NO a musical experience that combines the tradition of the genre with improvisation and the direct communication between musicians and audience.

The Blues Cargo Jam Nights are two evenings centred on blues and the freedom of expression that lies at the heart of the genre. As hosts of the nights, Blues Cargo open the stage to fellow blues musicians, creating a space for musical encounters and spontaneous improvisation.

Each evening begins with a tribute and then moves into an open jam, where blues musicians are welcome to join the stage and play alongside Blues Cargo and other participating musicians. The result is an evening that takes its own course, shaped by interaction, improvisation and the unexpected musical encounters that emerge on stage.

The story of Blues Cargo began in 1984, while in 1987 the band adopted the name by which it is known today. With nearly four decades of musical presence, they have become a significant reference point on the Greek blues scene, remaining firmly rooted in Chicago Blues while incorporating influences from R&B, funk, soul and jazz. Throughout their career, Blues Cargo have collaborated with leading American blues artists including Louisiana Red, Lurrie Bell, Eddie C. Campbell, Guitar Shorty and Matthew Skoller, while also sharing the stage with internationally renowned artists such as John Mayall Bluesbreakers and John Hammond.

Their discography includes four albums, from First Delivery (1993) to On Time (2016). Today, the band continues to perform live, with live performance and the spirit of the jam remaining at the core of their musical identity.
