Lyra Quartet and the Vocal Ensemble “Kalesma” present the musical performance “Resonances”, a unique musical collaboration where the Politiki lyra meets polyphony, and Cypriot musical tradition engages in dialogue with Greek tradition and contemporary creation. The performance will take place on Thursday, October 29, at 21:00, at THEATRE OF THE NO.
Drawing on the musical traditions of Cyprus and Greece, the performance creates a shared sonic landscape where the Politiki lyra meets polyphony, traditional melodies engage with new compositions, and historical memory is transformed into contemporary artistic expression.
Led by internationally acclaimed musician Socratis Sinopoulos, the Lyra Quartet consists of Socrates Sinopoulos, Chrysanthi Gika, Demosthenes Karachristodoulou and Stratis Psaradellis. Together, they create a distinctive polyphonic sound, highlighting the variety of techniques and musical idioms of the Politiki lyra through arrangements of traditional pieces and original compositions by Socrates Sinopoulos.
The six-member Vocal Ensemble “Kalesma”, featuring Paris Parashos, Anastasia Zakynthinou, Frederiki Tompazou, Savvas Lagou, Katerina Parashou and Vasilis Filippou (vocals and percussion), serves as a living carrier of Cypriot and Greek musical tradition. Through polyphonic approaches to traditional songs and new compositions, the ensemble highlights the power of the human voice as a means of collective memory and expression.
Through this collaboration, tradition is presented not as a static element, but as a constantly evolving creative process, highlighting the connection between historical memory and contemporary artistic expression, with an emphasis on Cypriot musical identity and its connection to the Greek cultural sphere as a bridge of communication.
