Theatre of the NO
Theatre of the NO, Athens’ first English-speaking theatre, presents the monologue “NINA 2” written by Katia Sperelaki, directed by Yoel Wulfhart. The contemporary and deeply personal work explores the passage of time and the fragile balance of middle age in the demanding world of theatre. The production premieres on Sunday March 17th at 19.00 and will be performed every Tuesday at 20:30, in English with Greek subtitles.
Nina, an actress at the end of her career, stands at the intersection of memory and the present. In her chaotic, almost claustrophobic room with an unmade bed and a cluttered dressing room that testify to her past she confronts fading fame, missed opportunities, and the hidden power dynamics of the theatre world. Her confessional monologue, interspersed with fragments of songs, shifts between charm and disappointment, humor and vulnerability, weaving memories of past success with the harsher truths of aging and exploitation.
The play addresses the commercialization of youth and femininity, the complex power structures within theatre, and asks a central question: when the stage lights go out, who remains?
In the role of Nina, Vassia Vasileiou honored with a Commendation for the “International Theatre Repertoire” by the Hellenic Association of Theatre and Music Critics for her performance and direction in August Strindberg’s “Miss Julie” brings her award-winning artistry to NINA 2. Featuring live piano accompaniment, original music and sound design by composer Michael Stavropoulos, the production creates a rich, immersive atmosphere where past and present converge, deepening Nina’s inner world.
