Eleni and Suzanna Vougioukli return to the stage of THEATRE OF THE NO, this time for two more special nights in December, bringing back their renewed musical project “Roots & Rituals” after a series of highly successful performances in November. The concerts will take place on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 December at 22:30. 

“Roots & Rituals” unfolds as a living, evolving musical ritual. Featuring a dynamic program with fresh interpretations of beloved and rare songs, unexpected transformations, and improvisations, it bridges tradition with the present. The performance takes the audience on a journey imbued with the ecstasy of Southern Italy, the mystery of Balkan polyphony, the richness of the Greek soul, and the austerity of blues, gospel, and rebetiko.

Eleni and Souzana Vougioukli, have been described as “the priestesses of multiculturalism” for their long-standing engagement with traditional songs from around the world. From an early age, they explored the music of various cultures and experimented with the expressive potential of the human voice. With deep respect for the language, pronunciation, and phrasing of each piece, they perform in over twenty languages and dialects, both a cappella and accompanied by piano, guitar, and percussion, which they play themselves.

They have collaborated with renowned artists such as Maria Farantouri, Goran Bregovic, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Loudovikos ton Anogeion, Psarantonis, Alex Sid, Nikos Kypourgos, Tatiana Lygari, Christos Thivaios, Ghetonia, Michalis Tzouganakis, Vasilis Lekkas, Giorgos Kazantzis, Ypogeia Revmata, Rotting Christ, and many more.

They have also performed to some of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including Carnegie Hall (New York), International Mugham Centre (Baku), Biennale of Young Artists (Milan), all Megaron Concert Halls of Greece, national theaters, and leading jazz clubs across Europe, America, and Asia.

With their authentic and electrifying performances, they captivate audiences, highlighting the global soundscape through songs from around the world as well as their own original compositions.
