Renowned guitarist and composer Makis Ablianitis comes to the stage of the Theatre of the NO, on Saturday, March 21st at 21.30, for a special musical encounter with internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and organist Giorgos Kontrafouris, presenting their new project “No More Melodies” a vibrant live experience where jazz meets funk, rock, and free improvisation.
Following the release of his sixth personal album, “Earthbounds- The Music of Makis Ablianitis Remixed”, Ablianitis reunites with long-time collaborator Giorgos Kontrafouris, with whom he first worked on his debut album “Flame Keeper”. This time, however, the musical approach is markedly different, embracing a more contemporary aesthetic and sound.
The program is based almost entirely on new compositions by Makis Ablianitis, shaped by a dynamic sonic direction that strongly influences the trio’s improvisational character. Alongside the classic jazz guitar sound, Ablianitis incorporates electric guitar and effects, drawing inspiration from the funk and rock scenes and creating a rich, multi-layered soundscape.
This sonic palette blends seamlessly with the virtuosity and deep musicality of Giorgos Kontrafouris on the Hammond organ, adding groove, intensity, and explosive energy. On drums, Foivos Anthis one of the most promising musicians of the younger generation, completes the trio with solid technique and a powerful rhythmic presence.
About Makis Ablianitis
Makis Ablianitis is a leading figure of the Greek jazz and ethnic-jazz scene with an established international profile. His landmark album BAHAR (2001) achieved triple-platinum status and featured artists such as Hariprasad Chaurasia, Glen Velez, Dragan Dautovski, Haig Yazdjian, Petros Tabouris, and Manolis Lidakis.
He has also collaborated with Maria Farantouri on the album Mosaic as arranger and artistic producer. His discography includes Kismet, Uranos (featuring Pantelis Thalassinos and Vangelis Germanos), and Earthbounds – The Music of Makis Ablianitis Remixed. In January 2026, he released “No More Melodies.”
