Tap Reimagined: Thanos Das Unleashes Two New Works of Dance, Music, and Improvisation
Theatre of the NO, Athens’ first English-speaking theatre, proudly presents “Soul Stamps”, an electrifying evening of rhythm, movement, and improvisation, featuring two brand-new works by dancer and musician Thanos Das (Thanos Daskalopoulos). The showcase premieres on Friday, May 30 at 21:00, offering a bold fusion of body music, tap dance, and live performance.
Rooted in the rich traditions of African American music and dance, Das explores the evolving identity of the tap dancer as a full-fledged musical collaborator within an ensemble. His signature style blurs the lines between choreography and composition, turning the body into both instrument and storyteller.
The program includes two works that reflect a shared artistic vision while presenting distinct soundscapes and choreographic voices:
Soul Stamp I – The Duet
A magnetic dialogue between jazz-funk and R&B, this piece reimagines timeless songs about faith, salvation, and endurance. Tap rhythms converse with guitar textures and effects by Dimitris Mon, creating a vibrant and narrative-driven sonic world.
Thanos Das: Tap, Body Music, Vocals, Drums, Dimitris Mon: Guitar, Loops & FX
Soul Stamp II – The Company
An eight-member neo-soul ensemble explodes onto the stage in this high-energy piece where body percussion and tap form the rhythmic core. Original compositions combine live instrumentation with electronic elements, led by movement and groove. This is body music as you’ve never heard or seen it before.
